DBT provides clients with tool to address emotional dysregulation and change cognitive, emotional and interpersonal patterns which result in suffering.
EMDR is an evidence based psychological intervention which can be used to treat a range of disorders including post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias, anxiety, and traumatic memories. For information about EMDR, see https://emdraa.org/emdr-faq/
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a behaviour therapy, which focuses on living a mindful, engaged and value driven life by ‘unhooking’ from unhelpful thinking patterns, connecting to the present moment and learning to accept emotional experiences.
ACT encourages clients to willingly open up to emotional experiences because efforts to avoid them for example through alcohol use, emotional eating, aggressive behaviours, have resulted in long-term suffering.
